What I use (12013 HE)

Apps and Tools in use on my Microsoft Surface Pro

I got asked more than once now, what metro apps I use, and if I use them on the desktop, or only while 'in Tablet Mode'. So my first point: I don't use a tablet or desktop mode. For me, that's all the same, all the time.

My list of apps I use often

News

Mail, Calendar for work and private stuff (two accounts there)

Tweetro+ is my choice over the default twitter app, as it's well designed, and twitter s new policy gave them a hard live. So I support them still being around.

IE11, Facebook, People Hub, Skydrive, Maps, Marketplace, Skype, Desktop don't need introduction.

For Youtube, I use Hyper (can playback videos in the background). For RSS news, NextGen Reader, where I pinned "all news" to get a cleaner look.

There's the verge pinned, showing it's rss news. 20 Minutes is a local newspaper. And there's "File Manager". There are many out. This fits my needs.

Torrex deserves special mentioning. A very well written torrent client, responds to .torrent files and magnet:// links, downloads in the background and can even play back video/audio while downloading (and, in the background, too). Love this app.

And then there's some actual link to the cryptocurrency market, to check out my DOGECOINs ☺

Music Section

There's a music section, with xbox music, sounddriving (soundcloud) and DI.fm, as well as my two dj apps, ableton live and traktor pro (first desktop apps on the list).

For Development

There's Visual Studio 2013, Github for Windows, Paint.NET, Blend, Scott Hanselmans Blog, and some Channel 9 Sections pinned (in the channel9 app). A link to oculus rift news and Teamviewer + RDP complete that section.

Entertainment

The Entertainment Section contains Zattoo, a local app that allows TV watching online. Plex, to access my Media Server, even on the go. Emulators for Gameboy, Super Nintendo, VideoPlayerPlus, and Minecraft (still not metro ☹)

VideoPlayerPlus will most likely be replaced with vlc in the future. It can play mostly anything, in the background, too. But it's ugly green n stuff ☺ Basic player, but it works.

On the Desktop

I have ordinary VLC installed, chrome is there for development purposes. I use ninite.com to install and update my desktop apps.

There's more installed. But not really used.

So.. those are my apps I use. This post is btw written in ie11 metro mode to not get distracted, but on a a real keyboard and mouse setup.

Enjoy.
