ASUS Vivobook manual configurations on Linux

Screen Autodimming

currently, Zorin OS does not expose the screen auto-dimming option in the settings for the Vivobook. But the setting can be configured manually: run this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power ambient-enabled false

Function Keys / Media Keys

I'd like to have the combined function/media keys to default to 'media'. there's no setting in the BIOS for this. Linux (Zorin OS) doesn't expose an option either. To fix this, create a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ ending with .conf.

in my case, i named it /etc/modprobe.d/asus-wmi.conf and filled it with this one line:

options asus_wmi fnlock_default=N
